Listening to Eatern Montana.
Independent reporting and proprietary As a candidate for House district 33 I will protect our water from big business using it for non agriculture and non human needs. Examples of things that should not be using up our water are data centers and large private golf courses. We need to protect our water for agriculture and human consumption. There is only so much water and we have to protect it.
Also I will protect our rural hospitals from Medicaid and Medicare cuts. If we were to lose our small local hospitals, what would people do for health care? People in eastern Montana would have to drive 3 to 4 hours for health care. We can not expect a 90 year old disabled person to travel that far. I will protect the Medicaid expansion over 30% of our children are covered under Medicaid. Did you know that 60% of all the money rural hospitals receive come from Medicaid and Medicare. We also don't want to lose the good paying jobs that come along with our rural hospitals. Our rural hospitals are the backbone of our communities and our way of life. We can't just have them close down.
We need to start bringing more business to the area. One way to do that will be to get the levy in glendive fixed so that the town can grow. We also need to work on improving the infrastructure in eastern Montana. Why is it that Eastern Montana always gets put on the back burner? Why do our roads and schools have to be so deteriorated before anything is done? Why are the glendive kids going to school in trailers.. We need to have more money sent to the East. I will do what it takes to get that done. I will work with both parties to come up with a solution to our problems instead of just kicking the can down the road.
I also want to find a way for our young farmers to purchase land in the state. We have a huge problem: no young people are moving back to the farms. One of the major hurdles is that there is no way for them to be able to purchase land. I would like to see younger farmers get a tax exemption for the first 10 years so that they can get established. I would also like to see the state program for beginning farmers expanded so that it can work with FSA programs. We need to have something to encourage younger people to move back to the farms instead of moving to the cities. The way of life in eastern Montana is far superior to the way of life in the cities but it is dying and we need to fix it before it's too late.
The most important thing I see is that in politics there is too much blaming the other person. I will take responsibility for what I do and not blame the other guy. This gets us nowhere we need to come together as a state not be divided into Republicans and Democrats. We are all Montanas and I think people in the government need to come together and do what's best for the state and not what's best for the party. The people of Montana are different from other states. We elected the first woman senator. There are 12 different tribes in this state and many people from different ways of life and backgrounds. When our ancestors homesteaded Eastern Montana they all had to work together to survive. I think it is more important today than it was 100 years ago. If this great country and state are to survive we need to put our differences behind us and come together as our ancestors did.
